Perranporth beach
Perranporth, locally known as ”Perran” is where St Piran the patron saint of Cornwall came ashore, allegedly he had made the crossing tied to a millstone. His flag a white cross on a black back ground still flies across Cornwall. Perranporth beach which is the closest to the caravan, stretches for approximately 2 miles of golden sand, backed by sand dunes, it is part of the South West coastal footpath which goes all around the Cornish coast line. The beach is dog friendly, a life guard service helps protect surfers and swimmers whilst in the sea. www.surfline.com gives up to date information on tides and surf conditions. Look out for “The watering hole” a pub right on the beach which offers hot food and sometimes has live music in the evenings, a fantastic place to watch the sun go down.

Where to get hedgehog ice cream?
To get the famous hedgehog ice cream venture to the National Trust Chaple Porth beach. It has a carpark however if you want a real spectacular walk, it is walk 31 in the 50 walks in Cornwall book on the bookshelf above the TV in Porthcurno 4. Free parking at St Agnes Beacon, walk to the top of the Beacon for spectacular 360° views, then follow the footpath network into Chaple Combe a wooded valley keep following the stream down hill and it leads you straight to the beach. After the ice-cream, swim, beach experience follow the cliff path east past the impressive engine house with chimney stack, used in the 19th century for tin mining, just before the coast guard look out walk towards the Beacon to find your car. I prefer doing the walk in the opposite direction to what the book advises. Don’t worry if it’s a windy day you may see hang gliders jumping off the cliffs by the coats guard look out. If you are not that mobile you can drive all the way to the cliffs.
If you get excited about seeing a seal, just double check as it maybe a surfer waiting to catch the next set (of waves)!
St Anthony's Head walk
A south coast adventure is walk 28 in the 50 walks in Cornwall book on the bookshelf above the TV in Porthcurno 4!
Drive past Tregony, and park at Porth Farm. The circular 6.5mile walk takes you along secluded creekside with views of St Mawes and later Falmouth, St Antony Head has a light house, which has a loud fog horn, very atmospheric on a misty day. If the weather is sunny take your picnic and swimming gear as you will pass a few secluded bays and Porthbeor Beach. You however need to keep on walking until you reach Greeb Point with a beautiful Towan beach below. The beach is just down from the carpark. We highly recommend to pop into the most friendly Porth Tea Room at National Trust's Porth Farm for refreshments (especially ice-cream and delicious cakes) at the end of your walk!
